The Debutantes' programme at Holy Rosary School was started about 20 years ago, when the school was still a small convent with limited resources. The first project was for the girls to raise money for a much needed Home Economics kitchen. Since then the programme has grown and developed and today is largely focused on raising money for charity and the Holy Rosary Outreach Programme. Participation in the Debutantes' Programme is entirely voluntary, but most girls join as they look forward to a year of working together while raising funds for those less fortunate in our society. Each year the girls come up with new and interesting ideas to raise money! The Debutantes' Programme runs from September to July of the next year. Girls in Grade 9 volunteer to be Holy Rosary Debutantes. The girls are guided throughout the year by the Debutantes' Convenor: one of their mothers. A glittering Debutantes' Ball - held at the beginning of September - closes a year of fun and challenging work. The girls and their partners receive an invitation to the ball, and family and friends are welcome to buy tickets. The debutante who raised the most money is crowned the Debutante Queen and there are 1st and 2nd Princesses.
In order to qualify to attend the ball, the debutante must raise at least R2 750.00, including the selling of 3 books of raffle tickets. She must also complete a minimum of 6 hours of community service.
